Many of you may have developed a habit from your adolescent years of over tweezing. Maybe the habit started because of trends that were popular at the time or perhaps you trusted one to many nail technicians that lacked the professional skills needed to shape your brows. Either way, years have gone by and your brow have completely lost their way, and now you feel your only options are to slap a brow wig or shave them off completely and draw them back on.
I’ve come to tell you that you have more options than drawing them on for the rest of your life, and that your brows have the potential to look great. While growing your brows may take a little time and effort, the end result is well worth it. Getting your brows to reach their full potential Just takes commitment and willingness to follow 6 simple steps.
1st Step
Make a commitment
Similar to what they say in A.A., if you want to grow out your brows, you have to admit to yourself that they have become unmanageable and make a commitment to change their shape. Once you have made a commitment to growing them out, you are now on a path to getting the shape you want.
2nd Step
Get rid of all brow destroying paraphernalia
Once you’ve decide that you want your brows to improve, it helps throw away anything that may thwart your chances of reaching full brow recovery. For example, get rid of all paraphernalia such as magnify mirrors and tweezers. If you own a magnify mirror, donate it to the thrift store. Unless you are a microbiologist doing a study of facial organisms, there is really no reason for you to use a mag mirror. Not only do magnify mirrors lower self-esteem by making you feel like a hairy beast, when you are clearly not, they give you the wrong perspective of how your brows are in relation to the rest of your face. A magnify mirror could be the sole reason you have tweezed away all of your eyebrow in the first place, so just get rid of it. Also get rid of your tweezer. Tweezer are also a huge hindrance in helping you to get the shape you want. Unless you know exactly where you’re going with them, then they may only slow you down in growing out process.
3rd Step
Seek Professional help
Find a support group a.k.a. brow expert either online or in person who has guidelines.
Find a brow expert who will help guide you to form the shape that looks best on you. Someone who goes over your shape with you beforehand generally are trustworthy. Growing your brows out is a process and it doesn’t happen overnight, so it can be hard at first, but if you find someone who can clean them up while letting then still grow, you will be much happier with the process and the result.
4th Step
Leave them alone
Yes, it may be hard to accept, but just leave your eyebrows alone. Please resist the urge to tweeze any hairs that poke through, no matter how pitiful or wayward these hairs may look. The first month is the hardest when it comes to growing out your brows, depending on how thin or thick your eyebrows are. However, usually after at least a month a shape will begin to form. Hair grows in cycles, every 2-3 weeks, and usually all off your hairs are not at the same growth cycle. some of the hairs are doormat and may take longer to grow. In that case, they may need assistance in growing and serums such as latisse or revitbrow may help to speed up the process.
5th Step
Make a Plan
Determine where exactly it is that you would like for your eyebrows to grow. A sign of a good brow specialist is someone who will go over your brows first before they start to remove hair. They usually are good listeners and go over exactly everything you will need to attain the shape you want. Once you know what it is you are trying to achieve you will feel more confident in the process.
6th Step
Treat and wait
After you have determined the shape your looking for and gone over a realistic plan to get that shape, your brow specialist may recommend things you can use at home to help you through this process. I personally would recommend using a good brow shadow or pencil to conceal the messy hairs that are trying to grow. This will deter you from wanting to tweeze them out. Tinting your brows is also something you could do to make your brows look fuller and will help you leave your brows alone. In addition to concealing your brows another way you can treat your brows while you wait is to condition them and train them to grows the way you want then to. To help retrain the hair to grow in their natural direction brush them with castor oil or a good brow gel. Castor oil helps to condition the hair and skin and brow gel will help tame the hairs. Also take a hair, skin and nail vitamin. Vitamins such as B5, biotin and fish oil supplements are especially good for growing eyebrows because they help cell growth. While there are plenty of supplements to help grow your hair out and condition your skin, taking care or your health by eating a balanced diet with lots of vegetables is the best way to get healthy hair and skin. Vitamins alone can only do so much.
